According to research, Solar PV Systems although generally less risk of causing a house fire than your usual suspects like hair dryers and curling irons, blenders and toasters. Solar Panels are very safe. With that been said there have been a few incidents.


That's why more and more of Home & Business owners are looking to improve their knowledge on the fire safety of solar panels.


Here we take a look at a few tips to ensure your home is safe!


  1. Be mindful of who is installing your Solar Panels. Please make sure you only use an SEAI approved company. You can find a list of registered installers here.
  2. Only higher professionals - If a fire should break out it could indicate faulty installation. Make sure your Solar installer is a highly qualified electrician.
  3. Fire Detection - Make sure you have fire alarms fitted in the correct positions to ensure extra fire safety in the home and always check them regularly.
  4. Considering a battery? If you are opting-in for this feature, we highly recommend the battery be installed externally if that's possible. This also decreases the chance of a Fire.
  5. Education is Key! Let everyone in the household know how the system works. It's never a bad idea to have a fire escape plan.
